The Purposd Journey · Season 1: Healing · Day 36
Scripture: Isaiah 43:18–19 (NIV)
God’s promise of doing something new reminds us that the past does not have to define what comes next.
Sometimes we spend so much time praying for change that we forget change also requires learning how to live differently.
You can leave an unhealthy relationship and still carry unhealthy expectations into the next one.
You can walk away from destructive habits and still feel drawn toward familiar coping mechanisms.
You can experience peace and still feel uncomfortable because your mind and body have grown accustomed to stress.
That’s why healing isn’t just about what you leave behind.
It’s about what you begin building.
A new normal doesn’t happen simply because your circumstances improve. It develops through intentional choices, renewed thinking, healthy boundaries, and consistent action.
And sometimes, the life God is leading you toward will feel unfamiliar before it feels peaceful.
Spirit — Learning to follow God into something new
Isaiah 43:19 reminds us to pay attention to what God is doing instead of assuming our future must resemble our past.
Following God sometimes means releasing the identity, habits, and expectations that once felt necessary for survival.
Reflection: Am I allowing God to lead me forward, or am I holding on to what feels familiar because I’m afraid of what comes next?
Soul — Becoming comfortable with healthy
Your thoughts and emotions may need time to adjust to new patterns.
If you’ve spent years expecting conflict, calm can feel suspicious.
If you’ve learned to earn love through overgiving, receiving healthy love may feel uncomfortable.
If you’ve been constantly busy, rest may feel unproductive.
Those feelings do not automatically mean something is wrong. Sometimes they mean you’re learning a different way to live.
Healing includes recognizing these reactions without letting them control your decisions.
Reflection: What healthy experience have I been resisting because it feels unfamiliar?
Body — Practicing the new normal
Lasting change is strengthened by what we repeatedly practice.
That may look like maintaining a consistent sleep routine, pausing before reacting, moving your body, spending time in prayer, keeping healthy boundaries, or asking for support.
You don’t have to change everything at once.
Start with one sustainable choice.
Repeat it.
Allow consistency to become part of your new normal.
Reflection: What small daily habit would support the person I’m becoming?
Today’s Prayer
Father,
Thank You for every place You’ve brought me from and every lesson You’ve taught me along the way.
Help me recognize when I’m returning to old habits simply because they’re familiar.
Teach me to embrace healthy relationships, peaceful environments, and new responsibilities with wisdom and courage.
Renew my mind, strengthen my heart, and help my daily choices reflect the growth You’ve begun in me.
When the old way feels easier, remind me that I don’t have to go backward to feel safe.
Help me build a life rooted in Your truth, not my past.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Today’s Action Step
Choose one area where you want to establish a healthier normal.
Write down:
1. The old pattern you’re leaving behind. 2. The healthier response you’re practicing. 3. One small action you’ll repeat for the next seven days.
Remember: Consistency builds what motivation begins.
Heart Check — Beneath the Surface
* What part of my old life do I still find myself romanticizing? * Where am I confusing familiarity with safety? * What healthy habit have I struggled to maintain? * How have my thoughts, reactions, or relationships changed since beginning this healing journey? * What would it look like to take responsibility for maintaining my growth?
Closing Truth
You don’t have to keep living like the person you were when you were just trying to survive.
One lesson. One step. One day at a time.
Purposd — Heal. Grow. Become.
